RIVERSIDE PLAZA

I had always heard it referred to as the Crack Stacks, and for many years totally dismissed it and was invisible to me. Then one day I noticed that there were a few bright colored blocks mixed in with all the mauve painted panels on the exterior. With panels of yellow, blue and red, the poured concrete structure all of a sudden made sense. Making the connection to the bauhaus or the architecture of Charles Eames instantly made this complex one of my favorites. Completed by architect Ralph Rapson in 1973, is home to over 4,500 tenants living in 1,303 units today. The complex was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on December 28, 2010.
