AN EDUCATION OF EDUCATION

After attending a AIGA event last week where the quality of some local Design programs where being questioned, it made me curious why my schools has had a great history. What I found was a series of good foundations and good upkeep.

My design professor Phil Mousseau designed a program based on the experiance he encountered at MCAD. Rob Roy Kelly developed this program loosely based on one Alvin Lustig had established at Yale in 1950. I wonder why I didn't know this before.

There are great references for both Rob Roy Kelly and Alvin Lustig. Seeing their work and reading about them really answers why I approach things the way I do in my work. Is it really possible this was somehow transferred through Mouse to me? Being out of school for over a decade and still learning from things he said, probably answers that question.

Rob Roy Kelly has a great outlook on graphic design programs, and I feel much of what he says can be translated to the agency life. The idea of sharing, being honest, be a good listener, assessing peoples abilities, taking ownership and respecting people you work with are just a few.
